Respite Care is a way to provide direct relief to the family caregiver’s health and wellbeing, by sending the caregivers on a short, much-deserved break to rejuvenate and revitalize them to return to face their daily challenges once more. Occasionally, the trauma of separation is too great for the caregiver or child and then the entire family goes away together, which will then be a Healing Retreat.

We sent our first family away for a few days of relaxation and recuperation from their harsh daily realities of their life. Caring for a child living with a disability is a challenge and even more so when you don't have the resources to access all the care they need. A healing holiday is a way for a family to reconnect and find each other again in a safe environment where they can just for that moment put their challenges aside and enjoy each other.

Mom Amelia is a woman of strength. Three times survivor of cancer and currently in remission. Her love for her children is what keeps her going. Despite harsh circumstances she takes care of her little boy living with a severe intellectual disability with great pride. We sent Mom Amelia and her family on a healing holiday. This was the first holiday they ever had together as a family. Mom Amelia shared that little M did not want to come home after his trip.

A couple with a special needs child was sent away for a respite in May 2018. The husband proposed to her the day they got back from respite. They have been together as a couple for a long time. They said that the respite was the best thing that has happened to them.

According to UNICEF, there are 2.1 million children with disabilities in South Africa. In excess of 600 000 of them have no access to schools and many are taken care of by either single or child headed households. Your contribution can make a difference in the day to day functioning of these individuals, thus enriching their lives.
We are a growing organisation with dedicated members and volunteers making a difference in the lives of individuals with special needs and their families.
